Randy Chong is Jaroop’s Director of Engineering. Randy is passionate about streamlining and scaling Engineering teams while driving a culture of agile software craftsmen; all in pursuit to deliver features that deliver delight and generate ROI for our customers. To help accomplish this, he leverages his 20+ years of software engineering industry experience as well as sharing insights from the healthcare analytics, fintech, and cybersecurity sectors in order to strengthen our insuretech engineering and operations.
His technology-agnostic philosophy promotes best-in-class solutions by always favoring the selection of the best technology for the project, operational resilience by building teams absent of irreplaceable specialists, and adaptable architecture by treating technologies as interchangeable and replaceable. Instilling this philosophy in his engineers encourages them to design robust architectures using software engineering fundamentals while not becoming too dependent on any particular technology used in the implementation.
He is also well-versed in both scrum and SAFe after executing agile transformations for most of his previous engineering teams. Managing via these process methodologies coupled with his technology-agnostic philosophy equips his engineers’ with the capabilities to accommodate ever-evolving customer needs and pivot in response to a multitude of other scenarios that require enhancements and refactoring such as: the need to switch cloud providers because the customer expresses a firm preference for a different provider or the need to switch from on-premise resources to the cloud or cost-savings through another technology become attainable or virtually any other requirement evolution.
Randy earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Outside of work, he organizes one of New England’s largest board gaming meetup groups, tinkers with digital currencies, perfects his cooking techniques, works on cars, and avidly follows the World Rally Championship.
